I've been avoiding the news because I just can't sit and watch the devastation that is happening in Haiti. I can try to do my small little part.
I sewed this string of hearts on pink seam binding. There are 14 hearts total with a little crystal prism tied to the bottom. The hearts are cut from vintage ledger paper.
each heart is doubled so it has a beautiful 3D effect. When the light hits it the shadows it throws are beautiful. I purposely didn't cut every single little thread off as I sewed. It reminded me of "heart strings" and how we can all do a tiny bit to help others
I could not find my battery charger and I was so disappointed I would not be able to get these listed in Etsy. I decided to use my cell phone to take the pictures. Not the best quality but I wasn't going to let a dead battery for my camera stop me from helping someone.
I work for Orthopedic surgeons and I know there are a lot of doctors that have left their practices to go to Haiti to help whoever needs it. (but not the ones I work for) There is no thought of "do they have insurance" or "can they pay". They went to do what they were called to do when they took that Hippocratic oath. They promised I will apply dietic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.
So if you feel the need for a String of Hearts to help Haiti, 100% of the donation will go to Doctors without Borders
Such a wonderful person. xo

So beautiful and sweet. I love how you took something that could be so simple as a ledger, gave it a new life and turned it into something absolutely lovely.

DWB/MSF is my favorite charity when it comes to this. My newspaper is doing nonstop coverage of the horrific situation in Haiti, so thanks for this post. XOX

A beautiful string of hearts. This devastation has touched people all over the world. Our denomination lost two men from a local church who arrived in Haiti 1 hour before the earthquake for a missions trip. I dropped my donation for the bishops relief fund going to Haiti this morning in the offering plate. I hope everyone will look around at the comforts and bounty we enjoy and do a little something to help a damaged land and people.
