Wow! Thank you all so much for all the "Lucketts Love!" By all the comments I received each and every one of you would have come along with me! What a fun time that would have been!
While we were at Lucketss my daughter and I got so much inspiration for little projects here and there. A few times I'd say "Oh, that would be so easy to do!" and my daughter would look at me and say, "Yeah right mom!" I admit it, I do copy decorating ideas that I see out in the big world. I know all of us do, thats what these blogs are for right?
We came upon these signs and we both just loved them. Since I am not a painter, can not draw a stick figure, I KNEW I couldn't replicate this.
I am a lover of quotes, and I've been collecting small frames from thrift stores and yard sales to do a quote wall one day. When my daughter begged me to pay almost $30.00 for this sign (that was not handmade by the way, it is manufactured somewhere in a warehouse) I told her I could think of a lot of better ways to spend $30.00. I told her to take a picture of it because I had an idea..... we came home, got all the junky supplies out...(who am I kidding, it was already out) and started creating. She got on the computer and created this....I do not know how she did it...but I might have to employ her to create my "quote wall"
I found this little frame in a thrift store. It has a shadow box type effect (it's deep) It had little plastic Korean men lined up in a row with Korean writing. Most people would have tossed it aside, but I knew it had potential! Now this hangs in my daughters room.
Speaking of beautiful.....check out this cute comforter set I got her at Target this weekend-
She fell in love with it. It's one of those "Bed in a bag" type sets. It literally came in a huge matching bag with straps (to use for overnight stays I guess) It's reversible. We got a set of black sheets too, and yesterday I picked up some hot pink sheets at the thrift store. I can't show you the entire bed because, um....she's 14 and uh.....it's not pretty. I just close her door so I don't have to look at it. My dad used to rant and rave and stomp his feet when we had messy rooms. I made up my mind a long time ago that is a battle I'm not fighting!
And here it is with her GREEN bed she insisted on painting a few months ago.
We got my mom moved into her new space on Saturday. She moved from an assisted living building to a private home, where 6 other residents live. It's a big farmhouse style with a huge wrap around porch in a wooded setting. Her bedroom window looks out into the woods, with all kinds of wild shrubs in bloom right now. It's a huge room with a private bath. It was a family effort moving her, even though there wasn't much. My husband, and two brother in laws were in charge of hauling out the furniture. When we got to the new place, my sisters and I started fluffing and nesting like you wouldn't't believe. We had that place put together in an hour. They had freshly painted the day before for mom. Just the sweetest couple own it. It is a business of course, but they went out of their way...put new fresh towels in her bathroom, hung several packs of new coat hangers in her closet...just nice little touches. Now she will be free to sleep in and take naps whenever she wants, without a nurse growling at her that it's time to get up and get dressed (they were on a strict schedule at the old place and taken down to an "activity room" every day at 10:00 until after dinner- warehoused essentially. My mom had the biggest smile on her face Saturday. It will take some adjusting getting to know the other few residents. The owner took a guitar out to the porch after lunch and sang hymnals to the other sweet little old residents. My mom is the youngest at 78, the oldest is 93 and was talking politics with my sister! I forgot the camera, but in a few weeks I plan on getting some shots to share.
I found these over the weekend. I've had the idea swirling around for about a year, but I want to alter them and turn them into scrapbooks of some sort. I have BOXES of old pictures that I want to get organized. I'm thinking of just plopping some here and there into the paper slots.....
Let me know if you have any brilliant ideas on what to do with these. I almost feel bad slapping something over top of good ole Bing's beautiful face...But I don't necessarily want a family album with his face on the cover.......Have any of you ever seen one of these altered before? I've been scrounging the internet and can't seem to find any. I don't really like the "cutsie" style of scrap booking, so I'll probably be using wallpapers and scrap papers.
And lastly, I took Tuesday off after Memorial Day. Didn't say a word to my family about it. Didn't want anyone "faking sick" to stay home too.....Just a quiet day for me to be alone...listening to the refrigerator humm....the fan whirrrrrrrrr and getting caught up on laundry. My idea of peace!
Today, it's just me and the girls.......
