(Didn't you just love seeing this ONCE a year when you were a kid! Oh! The! Excitement!)
Tonight on the way home from work I realized I'd forgotten to buy the Halloween candy. I ran into the store and bought about $20.00 worth of snack size candy bars.....must hide them when I get home.....less than 24 hours till the big night, but that wouldn't stop my family from making a LARGE dent in those bags....So my 14 year old informs me she's going over to a friends house for Halloween. My husband will have to keep the dogs contained somewhere in the back of the house.....that leaves me with running to the door every 30 seconds passing out candy to thousands of little kids that I do not even know.....(my neighborhood is less than two years old) People from the older areas of my town actually IMPORT their kids into my neighborhood due to the sidewalks, streetlights and general accessibility. I started to ask myself...."Why am I even bothering to pass this out?" "I don't know these kids, mine are too old for trick or treating....I'm not one to dress up and get all into it.....hmmmmmm ".......I wonder if I'm becoming one of those "old" people that turn off the lights and not open the door to trick or treaters?! I used to curse these people under my breath when taking my children around. I'd think "would it kill them to have a little spirit?" LOL! I just chalk it up to being burned out after doing it for 23+ years and I guess I'm just enjoying some of the breathing room that I finally have!
Speaking of breathing room........
Over the weekend I spent all day Saturday cutting up vintage fabric to make more aprons. I love making these and adding the trim and embellishments are so much fun. I actually sold the pink one pictured here on ebay back then. They are just so much fun to make, I really get lost in the creativity! I'd committed to Nita at Red Tin Heart that I would submit a craft item for a fund raiser for her husband John who was severely injured in a work related accident back in the Summer. I kept telling myself, "you have to get it started......." but I'm the WORLDs WORST procrastinator (it runs in my family, all my siblings are the same!) Saturday I made up my mind that the house could be falling down around me, but I was going to get it done!
This is a mother daughter set. It's going in the mail this week to be placed in a silent auction.
I also made these two, each with a little different "twist" I couldn't resist the Scottie dogs, even though I've never had one myself. These will go on ebay I think. I look for vintage sheets (the mother-daughter duo is partially made from a funky flower sheet). Pillow cases and bed skirts are another fun option for me to rip apart and reuse. I guess thats why I chose the name "Thrifty Miss Priss"....I try to look at things in a whole different way to see how else it can be used.......and once again....by the way.....The Miss Priss part comes from a nick name my mother gave me when I was acting too big for my britches...........
After completing these, I had to chuckle....all these aprons I'm making and not a one of them is for me!
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
