I found these adorable plates at Goodwill yesterday. I"m planning on making a "plate wall", inspired by the beautiful blog, Romantic Home. Since I haven't quite figured out how to link to the exact post on her blog, you'll have to scroll down to the entry for June 12th I think! Sorry! So I found these plates and they will be the start of my collection to hang in my bedroom as well.
This is what I have to start with. The white plates are made in Germany, they have a cute little scalloped border on them. The red "tablecloth" is actually a duvet cover for a crib size quilt. It is so cute with a little cross stitched hem of hearts. My family will think I'm nuts when I throw this on the table for a table cloth!
I also completed some projects that have been sitting in my brain for a few months. A while back I bought a huge jar of matchbooks. It was somebody's collection that was started in 1968. I loved the graphics and all the colors of the different books. What really intrigued me was the fact that a lot of the matchbooks came from places near where I grew up. I now live about 60 miles from there, but this person must have lived in the area too! There are even some from restaurants that my husband and I went to while we were dating, that have long since closed. I displayed them in a thrifted glass on glass frame. I did include the one that started the collection, it says "Scott Rosenthal" 1968 on the cover and inside it says "started my collection". I thought this was soooo cute!
One of my other treasures was this trophy from a dog show. It needs to be cleaned up, but I thought it was so cute. Since I'm a dog nut I could not pass it up. After I brought it home I placed it on a shelf and just waited for someone to say "what in the world is THIS?". Nobody has discovered it yet! The next day when I was in the Goodwill with my daughter, we saw some sports trophies. She made the comment, "who in the world would buy a USED trophy?" I just had to chuckle to myself and wonder how long it'll be before she discovers that I'm one of those people!
